Solomon Zuch is in the market for a psychic consultation. To find a good one, he seeks the advice of an old friend, whose ultra-religious wife keeps close watch on all of the psychics in the area.
How does one go about choosing a psychic in such a crowded field? Who knew that Columbus, Ohio was such a hotbed for psychic service providers? Once he started looking, it seemed like there were as many psychic entrepreneurs as landscapers, gas station attendants, pizza delivery persons, and other essentially unskilled jobs in the metro area. In such a competitive industry, he suspected that some of them resorted to all sorts of scams, quackery, and sleight of hand to gain market advantage. It was caveat emptor, and he wished to be an informed consumer.
Fortunately, Solomon was acquainted with the person who might have been the most critical reviewer of psychics in the whole Central Ohio area. Daphne Petraitis, whose sister he once dated, made it a point to keep current with all the local impresarios doing what she believed was “Satan’s bidding.” Although her motives were to seek and destroy, not quality control, Solomon figured that Daphne’s opinions were still valid, in a backwards way.
